Update:

The road to the 2026 World Cup continues for Team USA, with US Soccer officially announcing two crucial matches set for this fall.

New friendlies announced for Pochettino’s USMNT

Following their Gold Cup campaign, where they aim to redeem themselves after their Nations League disappointment, the Stars and Stripes will face off against South Korea and Japan in a pair of international friendlies this September.

Both Asian squads will travel to the United States as part of the FIFA international window and are also scheduled to play against Mexico, making these matchups a significant test for Mauricio Pochettino’s squad.

USMNT friendlies schedule 2025

  • USA vs Turkey: June 7, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. (CDT) Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field, East Hartford, Connecticut
  • USA vs Switzerland: June 11, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. (CDT) GEODIS Park, Nashville, TN
  • USA vs South Korea: September 6, 2025, at 5:00 p.m.  (EST) Sports Illustrated Stadium, New Jersey
  • USA vs Japan: September 9, 2025, at 7:30 p.m. (EST) Lower.com Field, Columbus, Ohio

Previous meetings with Korea and Japan

The friendly against South Korea will be played at Sports Illustrated Stadium in New Jersey on September 6, kicking off at 17:00 p.m. ET. The USMNT have met South Korea on seven occasions - the most recent, a 2-0 friendly win in February 2014. The overall head-to-head balance is two victories, two draws and three defeats.

Japan, who have already qualified for next summer’s World Cup, will be the rivals at Columbus Crew’s Lower.com Field in Ohio on September 6, with kick-off scheduled for 19:30 p.m. ET. The Samurai Blue are also familiar opponents - there have been three previous meetings between the two national teams with two Japanese wins to one US win. The most recent encounter was three years ago in Dusseldorf - a friendly which Japan won 2-0.

In the meantime, Team USA will be looking to build momentum by capturing the Gold Cup title before September’s international window.

Under Mauricio Pochettino’s leadership, the US squad will have its top players available for these crucial matchups, marking one of their final tune-ups before the World Cup. These games will be pivotal in refining tactics, assessing squad depth, and solidifying chemistry ahead of the global tournament.
