USMNT international friendly schedule announced: these are Team USA’s next games, dates and venues

Not even a month has passed since the USMNT’s round of 16 loss to Belgium cut their World Cup quest short, but it’s already time to start looking ahead. On Tuesday, the fall friendly schedule was released for the red, white and blue and there are some can’t miss matches coming up in late September and early October.

First friendlies announced

The first international break of the 2030 World Cup cycle will take place from September 21st to October 6th, and it will be a busy two weeks for the USMNT. They have four games scheduled over those two weeks, and they will start their post World Cup tour with a friendly against Peru from Orlando, Florida on September 26th.

Three days later they travel to St. Louis, Missouri to take on Chile for their second friendly. Both Chile and Peru will be anxious to take the pitch after missing out on the World Cup this summer. Then they will turn their attention to neighbors from the north and the south for the final two exhibition matches.

The USMNT will take on the other two hosts of this summer’s World Cup, Canada and Mexico during the first week of October. First Poch’s side will take on Mexico from Glendale, Arizona after both countries got knocked out in the round of 16. That will be the first time the USMNT square up against a Mexico side under the orders of new coach Rafa Marqez. Then the U.S. head to Minnesota’s Allianz Field for a showdown with Canada in the final match of the extended international break.

Poch has unfinished business

Mauricio Pochettino just signed a four-year contract extension that will keep him with the USMNT until the next World Cup. There is a belief within the team and the U.S. Soccer federation that Poch can steer this side in the right direction over the next four years as he looks for his first title as an national team manager.

After signing his extension, the Argentine manager said, “Working together with U.S. Soccer over the past two years, it has become clear to us that there is tremendous potential to make the Men’s National Team program even stronger,” Pochettino said in a statement. “The passion we experienced from the fans throughout the World Cup only strengthened our belief in what is possible here.”

From now until the next World Cup, Poch will have four shots to lift a title with the national team before embarking on his second World Cup campaign in 2030. Competitive play will start back up with the CONCACAF National League which will be played throughout the club season. The Gold Cup will be held both next summer, and in the summer of 2029 with the Copa America being hosted on American soil in the summer of 2028.
