Update:

USWNT - Haiti

as.com

The whistles sounds and it's three goals and three points for the USWNT in this CONCACAF W opener.

A brace from Alex Morgan and a late second half effort from Purce enough for the win.

Cheers for joining and we'll catch you later in the week when the USWNT face Jamaica..

90

We'll have three minutes of added time

as.com

Switch for Haiti: Joseph and Petit-Frere on as Louis and Borgella make way

as.com

Am sure most neutrals wouldn't begrudge Alex Morgan a third goal ...having said that the San Diego Wave player has been quiet in this half.

as.com

The US are pushing for a fourth but will be content with tonight's performance. Solid, no messing and disciplined against a gutsy but ultimately inferior rival in Haiti.

as.com
as.com

3-0 to the USWNT

as.com

... and Purce now does fire home to make it 3-0.

as.com

Duomornay is down and seems to have an issue with her back ... not looking great for the 18-yer-old who leaves the pitch.

as.com
80

Ten minutes remain in Monterrey as Purce almost makes it 3-0 but the Haiti keeper is valiant and saves well.

as.com

and indeed.... VAR intervenes and calls the offside.... once again ...spot on from the officials !

as.com

Purce slots home from a Rapinoe assist to make it 3-0... a hint of offside ...maybe from Rapinoe?

as.com
75

15' on the clock and it's not the cricket score that many anticipated pre-game. The USWNT have never looked in any great difficulty and have possibly taken their feet off the gas aware that this tournament runs for another two weeks.

as.com

Rapinoe on for Pugh

as.com
71

Megan Rapinoe is poised to make an entrance and her arrival gets a roar of approval from the small crowd at Tigres' stadium today.

as.com

Mathurin needs attention with an ankle issue as play is held up again. Looking unlikely the defender can continue...

as.com

Mews and Huerta are on for he US with O'Hara and Horan making way

as.com
66

The US are starting to show a superior fitness level now as the clock ticks down... the bulk of the Haiti players play their football in French lower league clubs with the US side almost all NWSL players.

as.com
62

So close for the US after excellent combination play ... Ashley Sanchez (who has just come on for Lavelle) pulls the ball inches wide of the Haiti goal.

as.com
60

So, the US felt they should have had a spot kick, but there was an offside leading up to that play which is what the ref and VAR officials were looking at.

as.com
59

Ref and VAR booth seem to be studying something !

as.com
54

The tempo of the game has dropped slightly as the oppressive heat starts to take its toll... Once again Haiti look dangerous and bring out best of Murphy between the sticks for the US who is alert and smothers a dangerous ball.

as.com
48

What a run from Dumornay but the 18-year-old lacks the composure and angle to finish. At the other end Alex Morgan has the ball in the net again but this one is ruled out for offside... correct call !

as.com

Those Alex Morgan stats !

as.com

As much as I love it, the TV director really is milking the over stadium drone shot !

Switch for the US as Purce is on for Sophia Smith

as.com

Both teams returning to the pitch... All eyes on Roselord Borgella after her penalty miss and subsequent red and then yellow card.

as.com

Credit to Haiti, once they conceded the second goal, they seemed to play with less inhibition and for the past 15-20 minutes matched the USWNT for the closing stage of the half.

as.com

Possession at the break: USA 70-30 Haiti (%)

as.com
as.com
as.com

There goes the whistle and the half concludes with plenty of drama following the Haiti penalty miss and then the red card for Borgella that was down graded to a yellow.

as.com

Play held up again as the TV director shows some amazing drone footage of the Estadio Universitario ... a hint of Boca Juniors' La Bombonera in Buenos Aires with the yellow and blue seating...

as.com
49

We're well into time added on at the end of the half.

as.com

A straight red did seem harsh but the challenge was far from fair... The ref is back and amends the red to a yellow.... great officiating from the Canadian .... the right call I'd say !

That's why VAR can be good for the game !

as.com

Haiti's mission today made that bit harder after Borgella is awarded a straight red card for dangerous play...

Hold fire...ref is going to double check with VAR

as.com

Haiti manager Nicolas Delépine has been non-stop on the touchline yelling messages of encouragement for his side... plenty of 'Allez, allez' !

as.com

Borgella drives the ball off the post.... Cruel for Haiti

as.com

Clumsy challenge from Fox as she cut down her oppnent and left the ref with no choice...

as.com

Penalty for Haiti !

as.com
36

Less than ten minutes of the half remain and it's very much one-way-traffic here at the Estadio Universitario. Just as we say that, Haiti break and a fine stop from Murphy in the US denies the Caribbean side from pulling a goal back with Dumornay threatening.

as.com
34

Possession after 30 minutes:

USA 75-25 Haiti (%)

as.com
32

Play briefly held up as Haiti defender Louis gets medical attention for a knock to the midriff. She seems good to go and we're back in actuon....

as.com
27

Haiti really need to stop the flow of US attacks or we could end up with a real rout here this evening in Monterrey. Any early belief the side from the Caribbean had at the outset has been extinguished by the Alex Morgan brace.

as.com
as.com

...and there's goal No.2 for the US and once again it's Alex Morgan who is on target....this time the veteran nodding past the Haiti keeper who could only watch as the ball sailed under the bar...

as.com

Sophia Smith is looking so dangerous for the US this evening. Bossing the right flank with the Portland Thorns player delivering some really menacing balls into the Haiti box.

as.com

Alex Morgan's 116th goal in a US shirt ! Incredible numbers from the San Diego Wave player who is making her 193rd international appearance today.

as.com
as.com

Wonderful finish from the veteran Morgan with a cheeky side foot into the net following a fine assist from Pugh

Alex Morgan puts the US ahead

as.com

Very sparse crowd in attendance at the fine  Estadio Universitario, 1,000 fans max in a ground that can hold 42,000. The stadium is home to Liga MX side Tigres.

Alex Morgan connects with a fine backwards header that rattles the Haiti crossbar as the USWNT side up the pressure

as.com
as.com

Ten minutes gone in Monterrey and the young Haiti side can be happy with the opening minutes of the game where the side in pink have come closest to finding the net.

as.com
7

Larco in the Haiti goal has been the busier of the two stoppers to date but nothing created so far by the side in white to trouble the 19-year-old.

Haiti go close as a header from a finely floated free kick grazes the US post.

as.com
3

Early pressure from the US as the first corner of the night is swung over but the move comes to nothing despite Horan's protests to the Canadaian refereee.

We're underway in Monterrey....

USWNT looking to hit back after Tokyo disapointment

The four-times World Cup winners are out for revenge after a disappointing bronze finish at last year’s Tokyo Games, with pride on the line for the perennial favourites.

Last month the U.S. selected a mix of veteran talent - including 2019 Ballon d’Or winner Megan Rapinoe, forward Alex Morgan and captain Becky Sauerbrunn - and relative newcomers, like National Women’s Soccer League Rookie of the Year Trinity Rodman, to their squad.
