Valencia challenge Netflix over Vinicius documentary
The LaLiga club has issued a statement demanding a rectification from the production company over the “Baila, Vini” documentary.

Valencia CF has issued a statement on its social media platforms is demanding a “rectification” from Netflix relating to the documentary “Baila, Vini”.
There is a scene during the documentary set at Valencia’s Mestalla stadium where home fans chant “tonto, tonto” (stupid) and the production company has these subtitled as ‘mono, mono’ (monkey). This relates to the league game in May 2023 when the Brazilian striker was racially abused from a series of local fans based in the North Stand of Mestalla.

“As a response to injustice and falsehoods made towards the Valencia CF fanbase, the club have made a demand in writing to the producers of the documentary regarding their portrayal of what occurred at Mestalla, which does not correspond with reality. Truth and respect for our fans must prevail. Valencia CF reserve the right to legal action corresponding to the situation” reads the post from the Mestalla club via social media.
Arrests
The game became a watershed moment in Spanish football with Spanish police arresting three people in Valencia in connection with the alleged racist behaviour towards the Brazilian player.

The game at Mestalla was temporarily halted after the 22-year-old Real Madrid winger was subjected to racist abuse with local police confirming that three young people were arrested in the eastern coastal city on the Tuesday after the match.
