Virgil van Dijk drops Liverpool contract bombshell
Arne Slot’s side may be romping to the Premier League title but the futures of VVD, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold are still undecided.

This week always had the markings of a decisive period for Liverpool and their hopes for silverware. But while Tuesday’s loss to Paris Saint-Germain ended their Champions League hopes and Sunday’s Carabao Cup final brings the chance of immediate redemption, comments made by Virgil van Dijk may be the most enduring impact.
The Liverpool captain spoke to the media the day after Liverpool’s loss to PSG and admitted that his future at Anfield is in doubt. Asked about the progress on a new contract the Dutchman had no words of encouragement for supporters.
“I still have no idea at the moment. Genuinely,” said Van Dijk. “At the moment I don’t even know what will happen next year. If anyone says they do know, they are lying to your face.
He continued: “Everyone knows there are some conversations behind the scenes but that is about it.”
Is Virgil van Dijk joining PSG?
Throughout this season Van Dijk, who is in the final year of his Liverpool contract, has been at pains to say that nothing has been decided. Likewise, teammates Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold have also maintained that they are not close to agreeing new terms.
The trio of Van Dijk, Salah and Alexander-Arnold has been such a key part of Liverpool’s success in recent years that it is difficult to picture the team without them. However some Liverpool fans have already been confronted with that image after footage of Van Dijk chatting to PSG bosses circulated online.
Immediately after the PSG defeat on Tuesday, videos emerged showing the defender alongside PSG chiefs Nasser Al-Khelaifi and Luis Campos in the Anfield tunnel. That sparked plenty of concern among some online fans who believed that Van Dijk could be tempted away to France this summer.
However, that doesn’t look particularly likely at the moment. The Dutchman is unlikely to be persuaded to move to the French league and recently joked ‘It’s not Ligue 1, bro' when PSG players appealed for a red card in the first leg.
