Vozinha signs for new team after World Cup heroics
The veteran Cape Verde goalkeeper was a free agents heading into the 2026 World Cup and has now signed for Chilean giants Colo-Colo.
Cape Verde’s World Cup hero Vozinha has signed for Chilean giants Colo-Colo, the club’s president confirmed on Friday.
The 40-year-old goalkeeper shot to fame during the 2026 World Cup and was named man of the match in his nation’s shock draw against eventual champions Spain in the group stage. He also impressed in a 3-2 extra-time loss to Argentina, making seven saves against the defending champions.
Vozinha was out of contract following the expiration of his deal with Portuguese second-tier side Chaves and free to sign with another team. Colo-Colo club president Anibal Mosa confirmed the news on Friday, saying: “We have an agreement; the final details are being ironed out, but we already have confirmation from his entourage and his representative.”
Vozinha reaches new heights at 40
The veteran goalkeeper has spent his 20-year career across a variety of clubs, spanning Cape Verde, Angola, Moldova, Cyprus, Slovakia and the second division of Portuguese soccer.
He was a relative unknown heading into the 2026 tournament but became an overnight sensation, with his Instagram account soaring from 50,000 to 29.5 million followers. Now, aged 40, he is reaching the greatest heights of his two-decade career.
He joins Chile’s most successful club team, Colo-Colo. The club has never dropped out of the top flight of Chilean soccer, has amassed a record 34 Primera División de Chile titles, and was the nation’s first Copa Libertadores champion.
