Watch: Pep Guardiola gets the last word after reporter mocks Man City’s empty seats
Guardiola responds during an awkward postgame press conference after Manchester City’s FA Cup win, as a reporter’s comment sparks reaction.
Manchester City have comfortably been English soccer’s dominant force over the last decade, with Pep Guardiola leading the Sky Blues to 19 trophies, including six Premier League titles and a Champions League triumph, since joining the club in 2016.
Two more trophies could be on the way this season. City are locked in a Premier League title race with Arsenal and have now qualified for the FA Cup final after a narrow win over Southampton on Saturday.
Criticism still follows City
Despite their relentless success, they have not been short of critics. The club is still awaiting a verdict after being charged with 115 alleged breaches of the Premier League’s financial rules.
Opposition fans have also been quick to mock City for not selling out all of their home games at the Etihad Stadium, nicknamed the “Emptyhad.” That criticism tends to surface during cup competitions, when season tickets are not valid.
Awkward press conference moment
That narrative even made its way into Guardiola’s postgame press conference following Saturday’s FA Cup semifinal victory.
One brave journalist referenced the swathes of empty seats in the City end at Wembley after Guardiola questioned why the media room was relatively empty, asking whether it was not considered an important game.
Guardiola gets the last word
Cue an awkward exchange between the two, which ended with Guardiola getting the last word.
