Weston McKennie and Tim Weah slam new proposed USMNT World Cup kits
Various leaks of what are supposed to be he the home and away shirts that Gregg Berhalter’s team will wear at the World Cup have appeared online.
The Qatar 2022 World Cup gets underway in November with the United States pitted in Group B along with England, Wales and Iran.
With the clock ticking down to the kick-off, leaks have started to appear online of the jerseys that all the 32 participating nations will use in the biggest soccer competition in the world.
It’s fair to say that reaction to the leaks of the USMNT home and away kits that have been spotted on specialist websites has been less than favourable.
The leaked home and away shirts feature the US Soccer logo in the middle of both shirts (white home and dark blue away) with Nike branding on the sleeves. The bland designs have not only ruffled US soccer fans but two key players in Weston McKennie and Timothy Weah adding their weight to voice their disappointment with the proposals from Nike.
Weah claimed that the players were ‘just as angry’ as the fans with Juventus star McKennie claiming to have raised the issue with the powers that be.
It remains to be seen at this point if the Oregon sportswear giant will bow down to fan and player pressure and make a u-turn with the World Cup starting on 20 November.
