Club América will bid to improve their poor record in the first legs of Liga MX finals when they visit Apertura 2023 title rivals Tigres this midweek.

Six defeats and no wins so far for América

In nine final appearances in the 27 years since the Mexican league introduced the short-tournament format - which involves an Apertura (’opening’) and Clausura (’closing’) tournament each calendar year - América have failed to win a single opening leg.

The 13-time Mexican champions, who have won four and lost five of their short-tournament finals on aggregate, have drawn three first legs and lost six. Those nine games have seen América concede 12 goals and score just four.
