What is Club León’s record in international tournaments?

The Mexican side are set to play Urawa Reds in the Second Round of the Club World Club in Saudi Arabia.

The CONCACAF representative at the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup, Club León, will begin their journey in the tournament held in Saudi Arabia against Urawa Red Diamonds of Japan.

The winner of the clash will advance to the semi-final round where the winner of the UEFA Champions League, Manchester City, await. The team from Guanajuato, Mexico, are about to begin their third adventure in an official international tournament, having previously played in the CONCACAF Champions League and the Copa Libertadores de América, and will be playing their 45th official match against the Japanese side.

Club León’s CONCACHAMPIONS record

The team from León, Guanajuato have played in the continent’s most important club tournament on eight occasions (1976, 1993, 1998, 2014-15, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023), winning only once, with Nicolás Larcamón at the helm.

As a result they are able to take part in the Club World Cup. They beat Los Angeles FC in the final and now they will attempt to win the FIFA event, something which has never happened to a CONCACAF club.

Club León in the Copa Libertadores

León participated in the CONMEBOL tournament in 2013 and 2014. In the latter, they pulled off a historic feat by beating a powerful side Flamengo 2-3 at the Maracaná Stadium in Rio de Janeiro. León’s top scorers in that tournament were Mauro Boselli with 4 and Carlos “Gullit” Peña with 3 goals.

What is Club León’s record in international games?

León have featured in 44 international matches as part of official events, 18 wins, 14 draws and 12 defeats, 67 goals scored and 48 conceded. Friday will be another note in the history books for Los Panzas Verdes.
