Thursday will be a particularly special day for Nottingham Forest, as the Premier League announces its fixture list for the 2022/23 season.

The 2023/24 Premier League fixture reveal dates.

Forest back in Premier League after more than two decades away

The two-time European champions are back in the English top flight for the first time in 23 years, having even spent three seasons in the third tier during the intervening period.

Forest’s last Premier League game came on 16 May 1999, a Chris Bart-Williams goal earning them a 1-0 win over Leicester City - a victory that couldn’t prevent them from finishing rock bottom of the division.

Led by manager Steve Cooper, Forest secured promotion from last season’s Championship by beating Huddersfield Town in May’s playoff final - and on the weekend of 6/7 August, their long wait for Premier League football will be over.

Forest were promoted alongside Championship winners Fulham, who returned to the Premier League at the first attempt, and Bournemouth, who are back in England’s elite division after a two-year absence.

A Premier League season split into two

Given that the 2022 World Cup is to be held in November and December, the 2022/23 Premier League season will be a game of two halves. The top-flight campaign will take a six-week mid-season break to accommodate the tournament in Qatar, which is scheduled to run from 21 November to 18 December.

The Premier League is slated to kick off on Saturday 6 August - or possibly Friday 5th - before pausing after the games played on Sunday 13 November. After the World Cup, the league will start up again on Monday 26 December. The final day of the season is set to be Sunday 28 May.

What time are the 2022/23 Premier League fixtures released?

The 2022/23 Premier League fixtures will be released on the league’s official website at 9am BST on Thursday 16 June 2022. If you’re in the United States, you’ll have to ask for an early alarm call - or, of course, stay up late. The fixtures will be announced at 4am ET and 1am PT on Thursday.

The Premier League offers football fans the option of setting their device to download its digital calendar.

You will also find coverage of the announcement on AS USA.

How are the Premier League fixtures compiled?

The IT company ATOS compiles the Premier League fixture list using computer software, which takes a range of factors into account as it arranges the 380 matches played during the season. For example, a club should never have more than three home or away games in a five-game period, while certain teams - such as Manchester United and Manchester City - cannot have home matches on the same day. A club will also never start and end a season with two home or two away games.
