It’s been a long time since Querétaro last won as a visiting team - a reality that they hope to change in Week 9 of the Clausura 2023 when they step out on the pitch at Estadio Victoria to face Necaxa, the last team they managed to beat away from home. That was over three years ago, the Gallos Blancos have gone 50 games without a win on the road.

Their last road victory came in the Clausura 2020 tournament when Necaxa hosted Querétaro at home on 16 February 2020. Goals from Jaime Gómez Valencia and a brace from Ariel Nahuelpan enabled Víctor Vucetich’s side to come away from Victoria with all three points; Daniel López and Maximiliano Salas found the net for the locals.

That victory was in the Clausura 2019/20 - a tournament that was cancelled just a few weeks later because of the global Covid-19 pandemic, with Matchday 10 being the last game to be played. The following tournament was played behind closed doors - the Covid-19 crisis was still prevalent - a number of players from every club tested positive for the Sars Cov 2 virus.

Necaxa and Querétaro get the Week 9 fixtures underway this evening in Victoria. The Gallos Blancos will be seeking their first away win since the pre-pandemic days - a result which would lift them out of the penultimate place in the table. The currently are on four points but a victory would be enough to leapfrog Puebla, who are 16th, on goal difference.
