When will Cristiano Ronaldo retire? Former Real Madrid star discusses future after Al Nassr win
After scoring in Al Nassr’s Saudi Pro League win over Damac, the Portugal captain dropped a big hint about when he will stop playing.
Cristiano Ronaldo did what he does best on Saturday, scoring the winning goal as Al Nassr came from behind to defeat Damac in the Saudi Pro League. However, the former Real Madrid superstar admitted after the game he’s unlikely to keep doing it for too much longer.
Al Nassr’s Ronaldo hints at retirement date
“I’ll play for the rest of this season and the next one. After that, I’ll have to see if my body can keep going or not,” the Portuguese told the media.
There doesn’t appear to be any suggestion, however, that he will finish his career anywhere other than at Al Nassr. “The fans make me happy and I make them happy. I’m 38 years old and I’m still helping the team, I’m still useful. I have to be grateful for that. What helped me reach the peak of my career was hard work, but without my team, none of that would’ve been possible.”
When does Ronaldo’s Al Nassr contract run until?
Ronaldo became the first high-profile player to make the switch to Saudi Arabia at the start of 2023, reportedly signing a seven-year contract with Al Nassr. However, the playing side of the deal is for two-and-half years until the summer of 2025 (i.e. the end of next season), by which time he will be 40. The plan after that is for the five-time Ballon d’Or winner to take on a sports advisory role.
Portugal captain still among the goals in Saudi Arabia
The Portugal captain scored 14 times in 19 games in all competitions for the Saudi Pro League club last season and has netted 12 goals in 12 appearances in 2023-24, including 11 in nine league matches.
Saturday’s result which moves Al Nassr up to third place in the table, four points behind leaders Al Hilal, who will be without Neymar for the remainder of the season.
