Where are France and Argentina in the FIFA world rankings?

The 2022 World Cup final is here, and as the two nations lock horns for the top prize on the international stage, we consider how they currently rank.

As Qatar 2022 reaches its finale, we can reflect back on a number of shocks and surprises that have led us to the showpiece game between France and Argentina.

A highly ranked World Cup final

In fact, while the European finalists have returned to the deciding match they were victorious in four years ago without too much fuss, the South American powerhouse opened up the tournament with a stunning 2-1 defeat to relative minnows Saudi Arabia.

Yes, there have been moments when we’ve had to rub our eyes given certain performances or early exits of some perceived favourites, but as it has turned out, the final is being contested between two of the top ranked teams in the world.

Where is France in the world rankings?

The reigning champions sit third in the overall rankings coming into this tournament but we will see them collect a bunch of points following another run to the final winning five out of the six (the 1-0 loss to Tunisia in the final group game had nothing riding on it for the Les Bleus.

Where is Argentina in the world rankings?

La Albiceleste arrived in Qatar as the fourth best team according to FIFA’s rankings and, especially given that this is expected to be Lionel Messi’s final World Cup game, will be aiming to finish on a real high. They also won five games to get here but needed penalties to overcome the Netherlands in the quarter-finals.
