UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
Where is the 2024/25 Champions League final being played?
The Champions League gets underway on Tuesday 17 September, with the final being held in on of Europe’s great areas.
The UEFA Champions League kicks off on Tuesday 17 September and the new format is on everyone’s lips, with the classic group stage phase replaced by a league system, with the now 36 teams (increased from 32) battling for a place in a division that will allow them to pass through to a typical knockout system.
While the fancy format switches will certainly look new to fans and players, the ‘big-eared’ trophy is the same and the excitement has arguably never been higher. The final of the Champions League this year is the goal for the participating teams, and UEFA have gone all out on selecting a venue.
Munich to host the 2024-24 UEFA Champions League final
Home to FC Bayern, the Allianz Arena will host the final of the Champions League for the 2024-25 season. The 75,024 capacity stadium opened in 2005 and has been home to both Bayern Munich and 1860 Munich across the years.
The 2011-12 Champions League final was played at the Allianz Arena, with Chelsea beating Bayern Munich 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw that went all the way.
It hosted games in the 2006 World Cup, including France’s win over Portugal in the semi-finals, and four matches at Euro 2020. As for the 2024 Euros, the stadium was used for 3 group games, a round of 16 tie and the semi-final between Spain and France, won by a Dani Olmo goal in the first half.
Apart from football, the stadium has also had the honour of holding Germany’s first ever NFL game. The Buccaneers defeated the Seahawks 21–16 in front of 69,811 fans back in 2022. The ground will host its second NFL International Series game later this year, when the New York Giants take on the Carolina Panthers on 10 November.
