The Clausura 2023 has not yet come to an end, but the transfer rumour mill is already in full swing.

At Cruz Azul, several players have reportedly been earmarked for a summer departure, as the club prepare a squad shake-up ahead of Ricardo Ferretti’s first full tournament as head coach.

Sextet of out-of-contract players set for Cruz Azul exit

During TUDN’s broadcast of Cruz Azul’s 1-0 weekend win over Pumas, the Mexican journalist Adrián Esparza discussed the players who aren’t expected to be on the nine-time league champions’ books when the Apertura 2023 kicks off later this year.

According to Esparza, Cruz Azul’s board of directors isn’t planning to renew the deals of any of the players whose contracts expire at the end of the Clausura 2023.

In total, there are six squad members who become free agents in the summer. They are: Michael Estrada, Ramiro Funes Mori, Alonso Escoboza, Julio Domínguez, Gonzalo Carneiro and Jesús Corona.

Esparza added, however, that there’s a possibility that some of these players will end up remaining at Cruz Azul - but only if Ferretti expressly asks the club to negotiate contract extensions.

Corona eager to extend Cruz Azul stay

Last week, Corona revealed that his intention is to stay at Cruz Azul for at least one more year, while Domínguez conceded that any decision over his future is in the club’s hands.
