In two exciting nights of football, we’ve whittled eight teams down to four in the 2022/23 Champions League. The quarter-finals went more or less as expected and now we look forward to two fabulous semi-finals double headers to decide who makes it to UEFA’s showpiece final in Istanbul. Let’s check out what’s happened and what we need to put in our diaries.

Which teams have qualified for UCL semi-finals?

Real Madrid went into Tuesday’s quarter final return leg aiming to make it through to the semi-finals for the 15th time during the Champions League era, and they did just that. Chelsea, having a troubling season all-round despite spending big, put up some resistance but were picked off twice by Rodrygo. That made the aggregate score 4-0 for the reigning champions. In Tuesday’s other game, Serie A top dogs Napoli were humbled at home, with fellow Italians AC Milan heading through to the place they have not been for quite some time.

On Wednesday it was the turn of Manchester City to hold onto a first-leg lead, and despite some impressive, at times dominant play from Bayern, the noisy German crowd was quietened in the second half with a goal from Haaland that made it 4-0 on aggregate. Prior to that goal the big Norwegian had missed a penalty, and later Kimmich showed him how it was done from the spot to make it 1-1 on the night but the result was never in doubt. In Milan, Inter held a 2-0 advantage and a further three goals saw the Italians enjoy a relatively comfortable night. Two late goals from Benfica made the scoreline look more respectable, but the result was long since decided.

What are the Champions League semi-final games?

To avoid any doubt, there is no further draw to decide who plays who in the semi-final as this was made at the same time as the previous round. That leaves us with the following, very appetising games:

  • AC Milan vs Inter Milan
  • Real Madrid vs Manchester City

It has also been established who the home team will be in the final, the winners of semi-final 2 (Real Madrid or Man City) will wear their home strip/colours in Istanbul.

When are the Champions League semi-finals played?

The first legs will be played as follows:

  • Real Madrid vs Manchester City: Tuesday 9 May
  • Milan vs Inter: Wednesday 10 May

The second legs will be played as follows:

  • Inter vs Milan: Tuesday 16 May
  • Manchester City vs Real Madrid: Wednesday 17 May

All games take place at 3 p.m. ET / 12 noon PT. Home team is first one named.
