Who will Vega join if he leaves Chivas? Fellow Liga MX club linked

According to a report in the Mexican media, Chivas Guadalajara outcast Alexis Vega could be given the chance to continue his career at Liga MX strugglers Mazatlán.

With his career at Chivas Guadalajara seemingly over, Alexis Vega is being linked with a move to fellow Liga MX club Mazatlán.

Along with Cristian ‘Chicote’ Calderón and Raúl Martínez, Vega has been banished from Chivas’ first-team squad after breaking club rules during Guadalajara’s away trip to Toluca earlier this month.

According to reports, the trio were caught sneaking women into the team hotel after Chivas’ 1-1 Liga MX draw with Toluca on 1 October.

Mazatlán reportedly keen on banished Vega

Club president Amaury Vergara has told Vega and Calderón that they won’t play for Chivas again, as this is not the pair’s first breach of discipline. Martínez, on the other hand, may be given a second chance as this was his first offence.

Per the Mexican radio station Octava Sports, Vega “may get the opportunity to continue his career” with struggling Mazatlán, who sit second bottom of the Liga MX’s Apertura 2023 standings.

Could he still have a future at Chivas after all?

However, while Vergara appears set on offloading Vega and Calderón, Chivas head coach Veljko Paunovic has seemingly left the door open for a U-turn on the players’ futures.

“I’m going to say one thing: let me see a show of hands from those who’ve never made a mistake in their life,” the Serb told reporters after Guadalajara’s 4-1 Liga MX win over Atlas at the weekend.

“We’re prepared to forgive, but […] if you want to be forgiven, you have to do something about that, take the first step. Secondly, forgiveness isn’t just given: it’s earned.”

Vega breaks silence in Instagram post

Vega, who has been capped 27 times by the Mexican national team, took to social on Monday with his first public words since being sidelined by Chivas.

On his Instagram profile, the midfielder reposted a message by his partner, Paula González, in which she had written: “Happiness is when you close the door to your house and all you want and need is right by your side: your family.”

In response, Vega posted: “Always with you, family. I love you.”
