Why is Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany not with his team against PSG in Champions League semifinal?
It’s a clash of the two heavyweights in this season’s competition, but a key name is missing from the bench in Paris.

Fans may notice the absence of an expected face on the touchline in Paris for one of the biggest games of the season on Tuesday night. Bayern Munich are without their head coach for the Champions League semifinal first leg in the Parc de Princes, but not by choice.
Who replaces Vincent Kompany?
Following a yellow card in the second leg against Real Madrid in the quarterfinal, Vincent Kompany is suspended from normal duties in this match. He can travel with the team but will then go his separate way, monitored throughout by a UEFA delegate. Aaron Danks, the team’s assistant coach, will take his place in the technical area and will likely be seen giving instructions throughout.

Speaking to the gathered media ahead of the game, Kompany took the situation in his stride.
“I’ll be sitting somewhere in the stadium. Maybe not too far from you,” he said. “The procedures are clear. I know when I’m allowed to do something and how I can support the team. I’m not involved in every part.
“The most important thing is that we solve this as a team, and we can do that. Danksy already has experience. He spent some time on the sidelines in England. He also usually plays a more vocal role, both in training and in games.
“I have 100% confidence in the staff and everyone else as well.”
The huge game kicks off at 9 p.m. local time in Paris, which is 3 p.m. ET / 12 noon PT and you will be able to follow all the build up, live coverage and the reaction right here. The inimitable Joe Brennan will be in the Champions League hot seat from around 90 minutes before KO. It’s not one you’ll want to miss.
