Update:

Kylian Mbappé has been in the wars in recent days, as evidenced by the not-so-subtle Band-Aid he is wearing on his forehead as Real Madrid attempt to fight back against Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarterfinal second leg in Germany.

Mbappé suffered a nasty wound just above his right eye after being elbowed by Girona defender Vitor Reis in the final stages of Saturday’s 1-1 draw at the Bernabéu. Not only was the French attacker left bleeding relatively heavily above his right eyebrow, but Madrid were not awarded the penalty they felt they deserved.

The 27-year-old was able to finish the game, but Madrid’s medical staff later decided three stitches were required to close the wound. As a result, Mbappé missed training on Sunday as a precaution but was back in the groove with the rest of his teammates on Monday.

Quick recovery ahead of Bayern clash

There was never any serious debate about whether he would be able to play in Munich, although there was some talk about whether he might wear a protective mask. Ultimately, a protective dressing, essentially a Band-Aid covering the stitches, has been deemed enough for him to play without any fear of the wound reopening.

Mbappé has therefore been able to take his place in the Madrid starting lineup as usual.

Mbappé key to Madrid’s comeback hopes

Whether or not he adds to his 14 Champions League goals this season could prove decisive in whether the LaLiga giants can pull off what would be a historic comeback in Germany.
