Why is Madonna a Chelsea fan? Queen of Pop attends Premier League game vs Liverpool

Chelsea vs. Liverpool is one of the most high-profile Premier League games each season, and this Saturday, it drew none other than Madonna to Stamford Bridge.

The Queen of Pop was seen munching on popcorn as she watched The Blues face The Reds in London, though it is not the first time she has been spotted cheering for Chelsea.

A history of supporting The Blues

A little over a year ago, a clip circulated on social media showing Madonna celebrating a goal for the Londoners against Brighton. And in April, the 67-year-old was photographed looking at her phone rather than the on-field action as Chelsea lost at home to Polish side Legia Warsaw in the Conference League.

Madonna appeared far more captivated this time as Chelsea defeated Liverpool in a heavyweight Premier League clash, getting Enzo Maresca’s team back Into the Groove after a dip in form.

The reason Madonna supports Chelsea

The reason she is a True Blue seems linked to two key factors. First, Madonna was married to film director and producer Guy Ritchie, a well-known Chelsea fan, from 2000 to 2008. We can only imagine Ritchie charmed his now ex-wife with tales of Ron “Chopper” Harris, Peter Osgood, and Dennis Wise.

Second, UK-based American PR officer Barbara Charone, who helped launch Madonna’s international career in the 1980s, has been on Chelsea’s board of directors since July 2022.

Now that she’s officially Hung Up on The Blues, the Queen of Pop likely doesn’t need many favors to get her hands on a ticket.
