Update:

Barcelona begin life without Lamine Yamal on Saturday against Getafe after the winger suffered a season-ending hamstring injury in Wednesday’s win over Celta Vigo.

Yamal went down clutching his leg and immediately called for medical attention after scoring from the penalty spot. Team doctor Ricard Pruna quickly signaled that he could not continue, and the 18-year-old left the field visibly upset but unaided.

How long will Yamal be out? Will he play in the World Cup?

On Thursday, Barcelona confirmed that tests revealed a hamstring injury that will keep Yamal out for the rest of the domestic season.

The club did, however, ease concerns over his availability for the World Cup, while also urging Spain not to rush his return before he is fully fit.

“This injury keeps me off the field at the moment I most wanted to be there, and it hurts more than I can explain,” Yamal wrote on Instagram. “It hurts not being able to fight alongside my teammates, not being able to help when the team needs me.”

Barcelona’s on the brink of LaLiga title

Since Yamal’s injury, Barcelona’s position at the top of the LaLiga table has been strengthened after Real Madrid dropped points late against Real Betis on Friday.

A win at Getafe on Saturday would move Barcelona 11 points clear of their Clasico rivals with just five games remaining, giving them significant breathing room even without one of their standout attackers.

Yamal promises “stronger” return

“I believe in them, and I know they’ll give everything in every game,” Yamal added. “I’ll be there, even from the outside, supporting and pushing just like one of them. This isn’t the end, it’s just a pause. I’ll come back stronger, more motivated than ever, and next season will be better.”

Barcelona need three more wins from their remaining fixtures to secure the league title outright.

There is also a realistic chance they could clinch the championship by defeating Real Madrid in the final Clasico of the season at Spotify Camp Nou on May 10.
