Update:

In the 85th minute of Real Madrid’s quarter-final second leg against Bayern Munich Madrid’s Camavinga brought down Harry Kane in the midfield. However after fouling the English striker the French player kicked the ball away to prevent Bayern taking a quick free-kick.

The referee headed straight over to the Madrid midfielder held up two fingers and then gave him his second yellow card and his marching orders.

Camavinga’s first yellow came in the 79th minute for pulling Musiala by the jersey.

Almost directly after the sending off, Bayern Munich levelled on the night (3-3) through Luis Díaz to go ahead 5-4 on aggregate. They then scored again deep into stoppage time through Olise to secure their place in the semi-finals, where they’ll play PSG.

Referee opinion on Camavinga sending off

Our resident refereeing analyst Eduardo Iturralde González felt the decision to send Camavinga off was wrong: “At this level, no… come on. He commits the foul first, but then he shows him the yellow for taking the ball away. Camavinga shouldn’t do that, but at this level you can’t book someone for something like that. If you carry the ball away, by the rules you can caution him. But this is where common sense comes in, at this level you can’t leave a team with ten men for that. I’m sure they’ll tell him at some point. It was four yards, nothing… But Camavinga shouldn’t do it either, that’s also true.”

Camavinga only on the pitch for 24 minutes before being sent off

Camavinga had only been on the pitch for 24 minutes before he was sent off, having come on for Díaz.

Güler sent off

After the final whistle Real Madrid’s Güler, who had already been subbed off, was also sent off for reacting angrily on the bench. He had previously given Madrid hope, scoring two fantastic goals.
