Striker Santi Giménez is in line to make his first ever appearance in the Champions League when Feyenoord host Lazio in Europe’s top club competition this week.

On-fire Giménez back from ban and fit to play

Giménez sat out the first two games of Feyenoord’s Champions League campaign due to suspension, having been sent off in the Dutch club’s Europa League quarter-final defeat to Roma last term.

After suffering an ankle knock at the weekend, the Mexico international had appeared in danger of missing the Lazio clash, too - but Feyenoord head coach Arne Slot says the 22-year-old is fit to face the Italians.

He’s in contention to start,” Slot told his pre-match press conference on Tuesday. “The injury he picked up on Saturday, and the pain that he has felt, aren’t enough to prevent him from playing on Wednesday.”

Giménez was forced off in the second half of Feyenoord’s 4-0 league win over Vitesse on Saturday - a game in which the former Cruz Azul man scored his 13th goal in 10 club appearances this season.

Feyenoord seek second straight UCL home win

Competing in the Champions League for the first time since 2017, Feyenoord have three points so far in Group E.

The Dutch title holders began their campaign with a 2-1 win at home to Celtic in September, before going down to a 3-2 away defeat to Atlético Madrid earlier in October.
