World Cup 2026: Half of Mexican base camps go unused as teams favor the United States
Several Mexican cities see their World Cup base camps left empty as teams concentrate elsewhere across North America.
The 48 national teams set to compete at the 2026 FIFA World Cup have now chosen their official base camps across the United States, Mexico and Canada.
None of the participating nations selected the previously prepared facilities in Querétaro, Puebla, Tijuana, Toluca or Torreón, meaning just six of Mexico’s 12 proposed sites will ultimately be used.
Mexico, South Africa, South Korea, Tunisia, Uruguay and Colombia are among the teams that will be based in Mexico during the tournament.
Guadalajara hosts two national teams
Two nations will set up in Guadalajara, making it one of the busiest host cities in Mexico.
- Colombia will train at the Atlas Academy
- South Korea will use the Chivas Verde Valle training grounds
South Africa and South Korea had also explored the Estadio Cuauhtémoc in Puebla, a historic World Cup venue from 1970 and 1986, but it will not be used this time.
