World Cup 2026

Alphonso Davies hamstring injury confirmed: Will he play in the 2026 World Cup?

Davies’ club season with Bayern Munich is over due to a hamstring injury, leaving his World Cup 2026 status uncertain for Canada.

Bayern Munich confirmed Friday that Alphonso Davies has suffered another muscle injury, a development that raises serious concern in Canada with just over a month until the start of the World Cup.

The Bundesliga champions issued a statement saying the left back will be sidelined for “several weeks” due to a muscle injury. It adds to a growing list of physical setbacks since his return at the end of 2025, following more than six months out with a torn ACL.

Hamstring injury ends Davies’ season with Bayern

According to German outlet Bild, medical tests may have revealed a tear in Davies’ left hamstring, ending his season with Bayern.

The setback occurred Wednesday during his 25 minutes on the pitch in Bayern’s Champions League elimination against Paris Saint-Germain.

As a result, the Canadian defender will miss Bayern’s final two Bundesliga matches against Wolfsburg and Cologne, as well as the DFB-Pokal final against Stuttgart.

Davies’ World Cup status now in doubt

The biggest question now is whether Davies will recover in time for the World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.

His availability remains uncertain for Canada’s opener against Bosnia on June 12. From there, it is unclear whether he will be fit to join head coach Jesse Marsch during the tournament or miss the competition entirely.

For now, the countdown has officially begun for Davies, with both Bayern and Canada waiting for clarity on his recovery timeline.
