While Madrid turned red, and white, on Monday as millions welcomed Luis de la Fuente’s squad home to celebrate the country’s second World Cup title, high-profile public figures continue to share their excitement over Spain’s success.
That is certainly true of Penélope Cruz. The Oscar-winning actress and her husband, Javier Bardem, became two of the most recognizable celebrity supporters of Spain throughout the tournament. The pair attended games from the stands, including the final against Lionel Messi’s Argentina, where they cheered on La Roja all the way to the championship. Their support has continued even after the tournament ended.
On social media, Cruz shared a video celebrating Spain’s 2026 World Cup victory in her own unique way – dancing to Bad Bunny’s “NUEVAYoL,” one of the Puerto Rican superstar’s best-known party anthems.
In the clip, which lasts just over 10 seconds and has been widely shared by media outlets, the actress, who was born in Alcobendas, near Madrid, lets her excitement shine through. After letting out several celebratory shouts, she exclaims, “¿Pero qué es esto?” (“What is this?!”) – a line that, whether intentional or not, has become one of the song’s most memorable lyrics.
Cruz’s exuberant celebration, together with Javier Bardem’s repeated messages of support for Luis de la Fuente’s team, highlights the excitement La Roja generated throughout the World Cup. Spain lifted the trophy for the second time, 16 years after winning its first World Cup in South Africa in 2010.
