World Cup 2026

Déjà vu? France squad tensions emerge ahead of 2026 World Cup

Disagreements inside the French camp have sparked memories of a far more turbulent World Cup buildup.

París (Francia) Update:

Tensions have emerged inside the French national team camp just eight days before the World Cup kicks off, with players reportedly unhappy over ticket allocations and ongoing disagreements with the French Football Federation.

According to French outlet L’Équipe, the squad voiced its frustration on Tuesday during a visit from federation president Philippe Diallo, signaling early friction ahead of the tournament in the United States.

It is not the first time France has arrived at a World Cup amid internal tension, with the 2010 squad famously disrupted by off-field disputes in South Africa.

Ticket allocation sparks frustration among France stars

Diallo informed players that each member of the squad would receive eight tickets in total, including two free of charge and six that must be paid for.

That figure has not gone over well inside the camp. Players believe the allocation is too limited given the number of family members and close friends expected to travel to the United States to support them during the tournament.

Bonus negotiations still ongoing

The ticket dispute is not the only point of contention between players and the French Football Federation.

Diallo has also adjusted performance bonuses tied to World Cup participation, citing the high cost of organizing the team’s trip to the United States.

However, talks between both sides have reportedly progressed in a positive direction in recent days, with players potentially moving closer to their original financial expectations.

Internal issues, but focus remains on the pitch

While these early disagreements highlight some internal strain, they are not expected to derail France’s World Cup campaign.

Negotiations over both tickets and bonuses are expected to continue throughout the tournament buildup. Despite the tension, the squad still took part in scheduled commercial and promotional commitments with federation sponsors on Tuesday without incident, signaling a professional approach off the field even amid ongoing discussions.
