Ferran Torres will go down in Spanish soccer history after scoring the only goal in Spain’s 2026 World Cup final victory over Argentina in New Jersey.

The Barcelona attacker, who came on as a substitute for Mikel Oyarzabal just after the hour mark, fired high past Dibu Martínez in the 106th minute after Nico Williams’ knockdown.

Spain, celebrating their second World Cup triumph, became the latest team to win the final by a one-goal margin, making Torres the latest player to score the decisive goal in a World Cup final.

La Roja’s first World Cup victory in 2010 was also decided by a single goal, with Andrés Iniesta scoring the winner against the Netherlands in the 116th minute.

Germany, including their years as West Germany, are the country that have won the most World Cup finals by a one-goal margin, doing so on four occasions.
