The world reacts to Donald Trump receiving the Peace Prize at the World Cup draw
FIFA's awarding of the Peace Prize to Donald Trump has divided opinions regarding this recognition of the US president.
The 2026 World Cup draw ceremony produced a moment never before seen at this type of event. The governing body of football presented, for the first time, an award in support of international peace.
This distinction was awarded by Gianni Infantino to Trump, who was presented with a medal and a trophy for actions that FIFA considered contributed to peace in 2025.
After receiving the award, President Trump gave a brief speech, thanking his family, the Prime Minister of Canada, and the President of Mexico for their joint collaboration between these three countries.
“I want to thank my family, the First Lady, Melania. We have a great relationship with the Prime Minister of Canada and the President of Mexico, and we work with both governments. I want to thank them both. We are the hottest country right now,” Donald Trump explained at the World Cup draw ceremony.
