World Cup 2026 Group B final standings: Results and teams qualified for the round of 32

Three teams have qualified from Group B - but for Canada, the bad news is they have lost their World Cup home advantage.

Update:

Switzerland have reached the knockout rounds for the fourth men’s World Cup in succession, and for the fifth time since 2006. By beating Canada on Friday, moreover, Murat Yakin’s team has won Group B ahead of the co-hosts, who now won’t have home advantage in the last 32.

The Canadians, though, can still celebrate a first ever berth in the knockouts. So, too, can Bosnia and Herzegovina: after defeating Qatar on matchday three, the Bosnians have been confirmed as one of the eight best third-placed teams.

What happened on Group B matchday three?

After thrashing Qatar on matchday two, Canada needed only a draw against the Swiss to clinch top spot in Group B. However, second-half goals by Rubén Vargas and Johan Manzambi earned Switzerland victory at BC Place, despite Promise David’s late reply for the Canadians.

It’s a result that means the Swiss will remain in Vancouver for the round of 32, while Canada’s second-place finish forces them to travel to the U.S. for the entirety of the knockout stages.

Meanwhile, Bosnia and Herzegovina beat Qatar 3-1 in Seattle, thanks to strikes from Kerim-Sam Alajbegovic, Mahmud Abunada and Ermin Mahmic. Hassan Al-Haydos scored for the Qataris, who have now finished bottom of the group in both of their men’s World Cup appearances.

The Bosnians’ total of four points was always likely to take them through as one of the best third-placed teams - and their qualification was confirmed later on Friday. Thanks to South Africa’s victory over South Korea in Group A, Sergej Barbarez’s men can no longer come outside the top eight in the ranking of the 2026 World Cup’s third-placed teams.
