Would you rather? Liverpool vs Real Madrid or Manchester City
Liverpool won the semifinal on a 5-2 aggregate against Villarreal and tonight will find out if they will face Madrid or City in the Champions League Final.
Liverpool made a comeback after looking like they would lose to Villarreal in the Champions League semifinal. The Reds had the advantage in the first leg, but it was quickly shattered when Boulaye Dia and Francis Coquelin made their strikes. But they scraped by in the last 12 minutes, scoring three goals to seal the deal and advance to the Champions League final.
This is Liverpool’s third Champions League final in five seasons. They became the fourth side to reach the European Cup/UCL final on more than 10 occasions after Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Milan. Coach Jürgen Klopp has reached the final for the 4th time as manager, which is now the joint-most of any coach in the competition.
Liverpool vs Manchester City or Liverpool vs Real Madrid
Now that Liverpool has advanced to the Champions League final, they await the results of the Real Madrid vs Manchester City game. Madrid and City are playing the second leg of their semifinal tonight and it’s currently 3-4 in City’s favor.
Real Madrid was able to beat PSG and then survive Chelsea. They have Karim Benzema, who has been a weapon for them this year. If you ask Mohamed Salah, he would prefer the challenge of playing Madrid.
“I want to play Madrid,” said Salah. “City is a really tough team; we’ve played against them a few times this season. If you ask me personally, I’d prefer Madrid.”
Some fans agree. One person said after the Villarreal game, “We need Real Madrid. Because of the Mo Salah shoulder [injury in 2018]”. Apparently that’s enough of a deciding factor for many.
On the other hand, Manchester City has depth and strength and are craving a Champions League victory. They are rivals to the Reds, the best team in Europe at the moment and perhaps an even tougher challenge. But some Liverpool fans would prefer to play against City still.
“I prefer Manchester City,” said a fan after the Villarreal game. “Because Real Madrid is actually in really good form because of Benzema playing really good football. I think we will have better chances against Manchester City.”
