Wrexham secures third consecutive promotion under Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney
Just a few years ago, Wrexham was a non-league team. But in 2021, Hollywood duo Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took over as owners of the team and completely turned it around both on and off the field, shooting the team into fame and success.
Their story is one out of a Hollywood script. The Welsch club made history with their third-straight promotion - the first club to ever achieve such a feat in the top five tiers.
Before today’s game against Charlton, Wrexham was sitting second in League One. Their victory and the third-place Wycombe Warriors’ loss to Leyton Orient earned them a promotion to the second tier of English soccer, and put them one step closer to someday playing in the Premier League.
The club’s story has gained national attention thanks to the hit docuseries “Welcome to Wrexham” as well as their significant rise to success. With record earnings of £26.7 million lat season, Wrexham is no longer an underdog, but a serious contender.
Their win today and subsequent promotion means tougher competition against bigger clubs next year, even more media exposure, higher revenue for game days, more sponsors, and - most importantly - a real shot at making it into the Premier League in the future.
