“Shameful” images at conclusion of Women’s Super Cup

Atlético Madrid player Virginia Torrecilla strongly criticized the RFEF for how the players were treated at the Super Cup medal ceremony.

Update:

Following the controversy generated by the medal ceremony at the Women’s Spanish Super Cup, where the players had to collect and put on their medals themselves, the Spanish Football federation, RFEF, issued a statement in an attempt to clarify the issue:

“In accordance with RFEF award protocols, and taking into account both the high number of institutional representation, as well as the infrastructure for access to the box from the stadium pitch, the protocol department decided to activate the award ceremony in the box in the same way as is carried out in the Copa del Rey.

“This is the same award ceremony that was held at the last edition of the Women’s Super Cup in 2022.″

It’s unlikely to be a satisfactory answer for Atlético Madrid player Virginia Torrecilla, who described it as “shameful”, especially as the same has not happened in the men’s game.
