DE GEA

Florentino Pérez insists that he will sign David de Gea

With the FIFA transfer embargo on hold, the goalkeeper’s arrival is a priority. Real Madrid want to bring in United’s shot-stopper along with Lewandowski for the 2016-17 season.

Madrid are determined to complete the David De Gea deal that they came so close to doing on the last day of the transfer window in August. This time the offensive will be more serious if the resolution of the FIFA Appeal is favourable allowing Real Madrid to make signings this summer. The president, Florentino Pérez, has two names on his wish list: De Gea and his next “galactico” striker, Lewandowski.

Pérez feels that he owes it to the Manchester United goalkeeper to bring him back to Spain. United naturally didn’t want to lose their player of the season and managed to hold on to their prized asset. Madrid’s approach and efforts were not enough for De Gea as they had been with Bale and Modric in previous attempts. It came down to just a few minutes with the TMS (Transfer Matching System) not validating the late agreement between the clubs of 30 million euros. The goalkeeper, 25, had been clear to manager Van Gaal and the Red Devil’s fans about his dream being to return to Spain but accepted the outcome. "No one let me down or disappointed me. At the end of the transfer market anything can happen, everything can change in a minute. That's football. There were difficult moments, some even strange, but they helped me to mature and to become stronger," explained the Spanish national team goalkeeper. Eleven days after his attempted move to the Spanish capital, his United contract was renewed until 2019 with the option of an additional season. It was at this point that the player returned to his starting position in the shirt of the Manchester club (he had been left out since the previous season due to the ongoing discussions) and the club owned by the Glazer family launched a media campaign aimed at revenge against Real Madrid who they feel had disrupted the stability of such a key player. A hashtag widely used: #Davestays.

Florentino will do everything he can this summer to sign the talented Spanish keeper and will aim to do so long before the window closes on August 31. The Madrid giants have already reached an agreement with the goalkeeper. The dream of the goalkeeper has not changed and he wants to return to his home country even after going through a farcical summer last year. For now, he can enjoy his huge salary in the Premier with the promise of signing of Florentino.
