Real Madrid's Marcelo suffers possible shoulder dislocation

Marcelo finished the match against Granada lying on the ground, attended by Real Madrid’s medical team. The Brazilian defender fell awkwardly after jumping to challenge for the ball and appeared to have damaged his shoulder. He was able to get to his feet, but had to be helped to the tunnel by the medics, showing obvious signs of pain.

Real Madrid institutional director Emilio Butragueño said after the match that he wasn’t aware of the extent of the injury, hoping it was "merely a knock", but did confirm that the player had been attended to by club physios.

Zidane in his post-match press conference also limited himself to confirming that the player had suffered a painful knock to the shoulder, but said he didn’t know whether it was anything more serious.

However when Marcelo came through the mixed zone at Los Cármenes he had the affected arm bandaged and in a sling, bringing back memories of the injury to Sergio Ramos, who dislocated his shoulder and was out for three weeks, before then causing the injury to flare up, falling after attempting an overhead kick against Sevilla.

If Marcelo has dislocated his shoulder he will likely be out for around three weeks or possibly more, as in general it is not recommended to try and reduce the recovery period for the injury.
