9 of Luis Suárez’s other moments of madness
Barcelona’s top goalscorer showed his genius and madness in equal measure on Tuesday night against Atlético Madrid. Early on in the match, with Barca trailing to Fernando Torres’ opener, the Uruguayan’s frustration come to the fore when he lashed out at Juanfran off the ball, an offence that could easily have seen him join Liverpool’s other former talisman for an early trip down the Camp Nou tunnel. He somehow managed to keep his name out of the book again later on after cynically pushing Filipe Luis in the face.
To rub salt in the Atleti wounds he then bagged a brace to overturn the scoreline and swing the tie back in Los Culés favour.
Of course, controversy has followed the South American around throughout his career. His infamous taste for defenders’ flesh borders on cannibalism, his ignominious spat with Patrice Evra during his Premier League-playing days sent Liverpool’s PR department into crisis mode (who can forget those t-shirts?!), not to mention his goal line heroics at the 2010 World Cup, which mean he’ll never be able to step foot in Ghana as long as he lives.
