Fernando Torres struck again this week, this time at San Mamés – another game, another goal. El Niño’s recent purple patch has seen the 32-year-old break his own record given that the Atleti striker has never scored in five official games on the bounce. This run has brought him back into contention for a place in Del Bosque's Spain squad for this summer's European Championships in France.
Answering the question “Should Del Bosque call up Torres for the Euros”, in a poll held on AS.com, 68.5% of those who participated voted in favour of taking El Niño to France, while 31.5% were against the idea.
Torres’s goal in San Mamés was his ninth this season in LaLiga, and his tenth in all competitions. Since 6 February, when he scored his 100th goal for Los Rojiblancos against Eibar, El Niño has netted on eight occasions, and his goals have proved decisive, with six of them breaking the deadlock. At rojiblanco striker has scored against Barcelona (twice, in LaLiga and the Champions League), Getafe, Betis, Espanyol and Athletic Club.
