Ticket prices soar as Leicester inch closer to the title
Fans hoping to see Leicester City wrap up the league at Manchester United this weekend face paying extortionate resale prices.
Leicester City fans are in the mood celebrating what could be their first Premier League title.
Carlo Ranieri’s side will be named champions tomorrow if they beat Manchester United. A draw at Old Trafford would only delay the Foxes’ title celebrations by a day if Tottenham fail to beat Chelsea on Monday night. And, if they lose at Old Trafford and Spurs beat Chelsea, they’ll still have two more games to close out what has undoubtedly been one of the remarkable seasons in sporting history.
Leicester fans are keen to wrap up the title as soon as possible and predictably nobody wants to miss out. The 3,125 tickets for the United game that were initially made available to Foxes fans for €50 sold out in a matter of minutes, leaving the thousands who are still without a ticket with no other option than to dig deep into their pockets; the price of tickets on resale has reached €2,365 and is still rising.
Most, however, will pack out pubs in Leicester in preparation for the celebrations that will begin once the players return on Sunday afternoon if they do manage to come away with a win. But the big date marked on all fans’ calendars is the next home game against Everton, a chance to wrap up the league or, if they do win tomorrow, give the players a guard of honour. The price of tickets on resale for the Everton game has already hit €10,000.
Meanwhile, reports in the English press yesterday revealed that Ranieri is set for a €6.4 million bonus if Leicester win the league. The Italian signed a three-year contract back in the summer worth €1.9 million per year.
