Mazda keen to become the new sponsor of LaLiga

Japanese car manufacturer Mazda is seriously interested in becoming the new sponsor of LaLiga (as it’s officially written). The Spanish championship’s current deal with big bank BBVA runs out at the end of this season, with the financial whizz-kids saying back in September they wouldn’t be renewing their deal. BBVA have sponsored the first and second divisions in Spain since 2008/2009

The bank's three year contract, worth some 75 million euros a year, runs out on 30 June, meaning Liga head honcho Javier Tebas has been receiving various offers from different sectors. With LaLiga flying high at the moment, as a dominant force in Europe and with several of the biggest names in world football, including the two biggest in Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, the competition it’s an attractive proposition for sponsors.

As of now the Japanese car brand Mazda is in prime position to win the rights to sponsor the tournament as of next season. The company is already a sponsor, being the official car of the tournament for 2015/16. However the deal to sponsor the entire league isn’t yet done and there are other suitors to have their name on the self-styled "best Liga in the world".

But if the car company win the rights next year we’ll be talking about LaLiga Mazda. Zoom zoom!
