Villa: "Spain are favourites but need to prove themselves"

NYCFC player David Villa spoke about Spain's chances at the forthcoming Euro 2016 competition during the presentation of his DV7 Soccer Academy in Puzol  (Valencia) and admitted that La Roja are one of the clear favourites to lift the trophy on July 10th but admitted that they have to prove themselves..

"Spain are one of the leading favorites and current holders but that gives you nothing" assured the former international star who played for "La Roja" on 97 occasions.

He also took time to praise Nolito and admitted  that he could be the goalscorer that Del Bosque has been lacking in recent times: "I hope he gets lucky with the national team. We've been looking for a goalscorer and he could be the one".

"I hope he has an excellent tournament as he's a terrific player and a great lad, he deserves the best", added Villa, who got to know the Celta player when they were both at Barcelona.

Villa lamented not reaching 100 international caps but claimed that if he was told as an apprentice that he would play for his country 97 times he would have accepted that. "It was a source of pride for me to pull on the red shirt" he concluded.
