With the 51st edition of the Trofeo Joan Gamper, Barcelona will celebrate the 25th anniversary of their first Champions League triumph at Wembley.

Sampdoria will be Barcelona's special guests for the 51st edition of the Trofeo Joan Gamper, which will take place on Wednesday 10 August at Camp Nou with the game kicking off at 20.30 hours. With their traditional curtain raiser to the new season, Barça will make their first reference to their famous first Champions League triumph at Wembley in 1992, when Ronaldo Koeman handed the team victory against the Italians - an historic milestone which the club will be celebrating with a series of events to commemorate its 25th anniversary.

Sampdoria will be the final opponents in a series of friendlies which Barça have lined up over the summer. Luis Enrique's team take on Celtic in Dublin on 30 July, on 3 August they meet Premier League champions Leicester in Stockholm and three days later Liverpool will be their rivals at Wembley. After the Trofeo Gamper match, Barça p`lay their first official game of the new season - the Spanish Supercup against Sevilla; the Catalans have requested the 14th and 17th of August for the two-legged final, although at the moment, the dates - as yet unconfirmed, look likely to be 12th and 15th of August.

Sampdoria and Barça were habituals rivals at the start of the 90s - they met the European Cup Winners' Cup final in 1989 - the first trophy success for Johan Cruyff as coach. Three years later they crossed paths again. That side, coached by Vujadin Biskov, has some illustrious figures such as Mancini, Vialli, Cerezo, Jugovic, Lombardo, Maninni, Lanna... The final was settled by Koeman's unforgettable free-kick in extra-time - culé history.
