PORTUGAL - WALES

"We'd rather play ugly football and still be here” says Danilo

Confidence within the Portugal camp is high as Cristiano and Co. prepare for Wednesday's Euro 2016 semi-final against Wales.

Portugal are quite happy to pass off criticism of the shabby football they have displayed in much of Euro 2016 and confidence within the camp couldn't be much higher as they continue with their preparations for Wednesday's semi-final showdown with Wales in Lyon. Coach Fernando Santos has nearly all of his players available for the game - only holding midfielder William Carvalho will miss the game as he serves a one-match ban. His place will be covered Danilo, who spoke after today's session at the French Rugby Federation's base in Marcoussis.

“We know that we haven't played our best football during this tournament - we're aware that we are capable of much better but I would prefer to play ugly football and still be in the competition than play fancy football and be out like many of the other teams who have been sent home,” Danilo told reporters today.

Sunday's session was focused on how to combat Wales' aerial threat. “We know how dangerous they are from set-pieces and training ground moves. They are very strong in the air and we are expecting it to be a complicated game but we are convinced that we will make it through to the final - we've been convinced since we arrived in France. We believe we can do something great and we are 100% sure that we will be in the final”, Danilo continued, before ending, “Cristiano still hasn't old us anything we might need to know about Bale, but then there's no need to reveal his secrets, we already know he's one of the best in the world. He is a very fast player and we cannot afford to leave him any spaces to run into”.
