Lazio appoint Marcelo Bielsa as new head coach
Serie A club Lazio confirmed on Wednesday the appointment of former Argentina boss Marcelo Bielsa as their new coach.
Rome based Serie A club Lazio confirmed earlier on Wednesday the appointment of former Argentina boss Marcelo Bielsa as their new coach.
"Lazio can now announce that the contract of Mr Marcelo Bielsa and his assistants has been signed," a club statement read. "The coach and his staff will be in Rome on Saturday July 9."
The 60-year-old, who has been without a coaching job since abruptly leaving French club Marseille after the first match of last season, takes over from Simone Inzaghi, who took temporary charge after Stefano Pioli was sacked in the second half of last season.
Bielsa coached Argentina from 1998 to 2004, and was also in charge of Chile from 2007 to 2011. It will be his first time coaching in Italy having previously managed in Argentina, Mexico and Spain with Espanyol and Athletic Bilbao.
Bielsa will have the difficult task of turning around the fortunes of Lazio, who last won the Serie A in 2000, finishing eighth last season, far behind arch rivals AS Roma, who were third.
