NAPOLI
Higuaín presents the 2016/17 Napoli kit; Callejon renews
The Argentine modelled the new kit for the 2016/17 season while José Callejón extended his contract until 2020.
After Juventus used Paul Pogba to promote their new kit this week, Napoli were the latest club to give kit modelling duties to a player who has been linked with a big money move away this summer - and simultaneously sending a message out to interested clubs. Napoli presented their new home and way kits for the 2016/17 seasons at Castel Volturno on Friday - Pepe Reina, José Maria Callejón and Allan posed in the new kits. But in a promo video published on the club's official Youtuve channel, it was Gonzalo Higuaín who donned the 'maglia': the clip was shot and edited a while ago, but it's clear that Napoli are still counting on 'el Pipita' for the new season, which is why he's promoting club products.
Despite the comments from Higuaín's brother and agent Nicolás (“We won't be renewing with Napoli”), De Laurentiis insists that the club won't let their star player leave for a figure under 94 million euros - a retention fee which at the moment, no club - including Chelsea and Atlético, is willing to meet. Higuaín's contract experires in 2018 and Napoli's president, as he showed in the past with Lavezzi and Cavani, never agrees discounts for his top players.
Callejón new deal
José Maria Callejón meanwhile won't be moving anywhere. Napoli announced that the midfielder has extended his contract to June 2020. Callejón, who signed from Real Madrid in 2013 said in today's press conference: “I'm very happy, it was what I wanted. We want the team to go one better than we did last season”.
Now the Italian club are hoping Raúl Albiol will follow suit and agree a three-year extension, then Gonzalo Higuaín - although, judging by his brother's comments, that is looking unlikely to happen.
