After stunning the Premier League with his hunger and desire in front of goal for Liverpool, the Uruguayan was hot property. In 2014, post the World Cup, Madrid had advanced the talks with his agent and looked in pole position to add the striker to their squad. But the Chiellini bite added to the negative media on the player and Florentino used this as a reason not to add more competition to his star, Benzema.

In 2013, Real Madrid suffered at the hands of the tall, Polish striker as he scored four goals for Borrusia Dortmund. It was after that game when Florentino looked into getting him on the books but instead he ended up at German giants, Bayern Munich.

Sergio "Kun" Agüero

Pérez was a huge admirer of Kun when he played for city neighbours, Atlético, and looked to take him across Madrid in 2011. The rivalry between the clubs was one of the reasons that this didn't happen and the striker later appeared at the Bernabeu in 2012...but representing his new club, Man City.

The French winger had joined Bayern in 2007 but by the 2009/10 season Real Madrid and other teams were sniffing around. The German club put a price of 100 million on his head to shake off the interest. When Mourinho arrived in 2010, the club looked again to take him off to Spain but again had no joy.
