Sergio Díaz was handed his Real Madrid in last night's friendly against Chelsea; coming on for Álvaro Morata on minute 63. Had Zidane not included him and 10 other youth team players for the US tour, the Paraguayan would almost certainly have been included in the Castilla side, who while the senior side were battling for every ball against Chelsea in Michigan, were meeting Leganés in a friendly at the Alfredo Di Stéfano in Santiago Solari's first home game in charge.

The player didn't have a great deal to do in a game which had lost its early impetus; Madrid were three goals up and it was his first experience of playing with team mates he hardly knows. Madrid paid Cerro Porteño 5 million euros (plus another million in incentive-related bonuses) for the promising young forward this summer. His movements and voracious style in attack have reminded many of Manchester City and Argentina forward Sergio Agüero. He was brought in to Castilla to cover for the departures of Borja  Mayoral who is on loan at Wolfsburg - and possibly Mariano, if Madrid finally relent and let him leave to play in a more competitive category.
