Former manager of Mallorca and Spartak Moscow Valeri Karpin has declared that Real Madrid’s Marco Asensio is “one of the best players I’ve trained in my whole career.”
Karpin, who coached Torpedo Armavir in the Russian Premier League last season was Asensio’s mentor for six months during his time at Mallroca in 2014-15.
The Russian, who played for Real Sociedad, Celta and Valencia, regularly started Asensio in his first eleven, but was sacked by the Balearic islanders in February 2015 due to a run of bad results.

Asensio was being prepared for a third spell on loan away from the Bernabéu next season but now looks likely to stay at Real Madrid after impressing Zinedine Zidane and the club’s directors on their preseason tour of North America.
