The award winning 'Cristiano Ronaldo The Biography', by Guillem Balagué, will be presented on Thursday 10 November at the Librería Lé on the Paseo de la Castellana in Madrid, with a football chat open to all those present, including the author, AS editor Alfredo Relaño and Manchester United legend Phil Neville.

The English version of the book won the Football Book of the Year Award at the Cross Sports Book Awards 2016. It tells the story of a driven young man with prodigious talent from Madeira, who left his humble origins to travel to the Portuguese mainland to pursue his dream of becoming the best footballer on the planet.

The Ferguson effect

It was while at Sporting that Sir Alex Ferguson noticed Ronaldo's raw ability during a friendly match between the sides when Ronaldo was 18. The legendary manager snapped the player up and helped to fashion him into the one of the finest players the game has ever seen.

Ronaldo would go on to play for Real Madrid, where he has won several titles, and to lead Portugal to a first major title in the country's history at Euro 2016.

Balagué's book promises to deliver the definitive account of how a skinny kid from Madeira went on to bestride the world of football.
