Raphaël Varane says he gets along well with his coach Zinedine Zidane who he describes as "a huge personality" and would love to end his career at Real Madrid but acknowledges that it's difficult to predict what the future will hold.

In an interview published in today's edition of Le Figaro to look ahead to France's friendly against Ivory Coast in Lens this evening, Varane said that among his objectives are "to remain first choice at Madrid and France" and "winning trophies".

Future plans

When asked if he can see himself ending his playing career with Real Madrid, Varane, 23, said, "Why not? In football, everything passes so quickly, but right now I'd say yes".

The player admits that he is not tempted by the possibility of joining Paris Saint-Germain, explaining "I'm fine where I am at Real Madrid".

Tête-à-tête

Varane also revealed that he had a private conversation with Zidane at the start of the season where both spoke openly "to make things crystal clear. I wanted to hear what the plans and objectives for the future were".

The young defender says his relationship with Zidane is excellent and hopes it gets even better with time: "I'm a real perfectionist and I love working on the areas of my game which need improving. We're both like that. He encourages me and pushes me to assume my responsibilities"
